I threw in another load of laundry and since I was downstairs I decided to take a quick break from doing that darn yearbook. Well, I figured since I had to go on the computer to upload some pix onto my USB stick (for pictures to be printed out), I might as well do a quick post. Since JP had to work at 12:30 p.m. today, we quietly and quickly left right after communion before anyone took notice. JP had less than 30 minutes to eat lunch so I took both kiddies to this burger joint up the hill. Both kiddies have been there numerous times with their friends, but the last time the hubs and I went there was back in September 1991 – - we had recently moved into the area. We never went back because we weren’t too thrilled about their burgers. This burger place is almost like a stone’s throw away; after all this is the only closest “burger” place around. I was so good and did not order a burger for me; however, I did steal some of their fries. I really really have to cut back on all them burgers I eat! After seeing their burgers, there might be a good chance we’ll give it another try – - – although knowing the hubs, if it comes to burger joints, he would rather go to Barney’s where they have “turkey” burgers. I guess I’ll just have to go with the kiddies again one of these days. Gotta get back to my yearbook . . . Hope ya’ll are enjoying the afternoon . . . it’s so nice outside!

the hub’s persimmon tree has “sprung.” When I took it 12 days ago, the branches only had buds but now the buds have opened up. I decided to take a break from doing the yearbook so I went out in our backyard to get some fresh air. Spring is only days away! Hurray! This morning I took AC to register for school. Come July both kiddies will now be in the same school. Afterwards, since we were somewhat in the vicinity, I decided to do my “trader joe-ing.” Gosh, with the price of gas these days ($3.39 per gallon), I have to plan my route without having to go back and forth. I just had to take some pictures of these pansies in the basket they were selling at Trader Joe’s. I had planted some a couple of weeks ago, and I haven’t managed to “kill them off” (yet!) On our way home, we made a stop over at the new Nob Hill and even made a stop at the Pet Food Express and bought gourmet dog cookies for CE’s two doggies – - Cyber & Kyla. (BTW, we’re planning to get a small “doggie” for AC which I will post at another time.) AC had a basketball game in the afternoon so before that, we were invited to Pat’s house to celebrate his 70th birthday. JP had stayed to watch AC’s game until it was time for him to go to work. . . so it was just the hubs and I. While he watched one of the NetFlix movies we had rented, I worked on the yearbook (for AC’s school). The cymbidium orchid in this planter is one of 2 orchid plants given to me by my aunt down in Southern Cali about 5 years ago (the other one died), and by golly it looks like it’s going to finally have some orchid blooms. For as long as I’ve had it, this silly plant has never bloomed! The leaves always looked dead! Pat even gave me orchid food in hopes to give it “life” as he knows I probably don’t know how to take care of them or any plant for that matter. Whenever we go down to Southern Cali, my aunt always ask me about them. I would tell her they are doing “lovely.” Luckily my neighbor gave me the same kind of plant a couple of years ago so if by chance my aunt decides to visit us up North, at least I’ll have 2 cymbidium orchids. My bad, huh? The one my neighbor gave me usually blooms around this time, but only a few sprays of flowers appear. It must be me because her orchid plants have several sprays of flowers. Here’s the lemon tree that Pat gave me right around the end of Fall last year. Oh . . . I should point out that of late, the hubs has been watering the plants so that could be one of the reason why the orchids are finally in bloom and the lemon tree is starting to sprout some lemons. Did I mention that I’ve managed to kill off some “cactus” plants, with the exception of the ones CE gave me about 3 years ago. I think I tend to take care of “plants” that were given to me. Now that Spring will be here in 4 days, it’s time to spruce up the backyard – - – I think that’s what the hubs is doing right now. Well, I gotta get back to doing the yearbook (Arghhhh!), so this is it for now. My break is over!
This morning I did the most “silliest” thing by putting on two different sandals. . . it wasn’t until an hour or so later while at work that I realized I had one black and the other brown! The thing is, they’re not even the SAME sandals/brand! I told Bril that we both had on the color – brown . . . so when I looked down, I was surprised that I had on a black sandal so I immediately looked at my right foot and too my utterly “embarassment,” the other side was brown in color. I tell ya . . . I provided free entertainment that morning because everyone was just cracking up. How could I not “feel” there was a difference with each sandal? Duh!! I guess we’ve all done something really outrageous! So I hope ya’ll had good laugh too! (Yes, I have ugly big toes and wide feet . . . that’s the result of having always “loving” to go bare-footed!) P.S. Aside from “rushing” in the morning to get ready for work, I blame this on the “day-light” savings because I had quickly dashed in to get my sandals in the dark . . . remember, it’s darker in the morning but lighter in the evenings. So there!
I’m not sure if I already used that title in one of my other posts but at this point, I’m too lazy to even check my archives. I just got finished chatting with my friend, JG (AC’s god-mother) who was up here for the weekend to scout for some condos in the area and in the North Bay. (I really wish JG would move back up here because the only time we can see each other is when we go down to LA.) We got to talking about “daiquiris”….umm…I sure could use one of them drinks right now! Nothing much happened over the weekend except that I had to do my PIP (Parent Involvement Participation) hours for JP’s school . . . so from 6:30 p.m. – 11:30 p.m. . . . I did just that! I helped decorate, “chaperone”, etc. the freshman/sophomore prom. At least my hours are over and done with! I had to take a pix of the strawberries they had at the dance because my niece, GR was so “proud” of how she placed them all neatly on the tray. Going back to the afternoon, since the hubs had never been to Jayakarta, we decided to have lunch there. JP was in the next city over via “the” bus visiting his friend so on his way back, we had him meet us at the restaurant. AC was invited by her friend, Katia and her mom to go to this “art workshop” so she was out doing her own thing. Let’s see . . . today, we were bad and had burgers at In & Out for lunch. I needed a few supplies at Beverly’s (I’m in charge of doing the yearbook for AC’s school as this is her last year there…. Wahoo!) so afterwards the hubs said we might as well go since we were all ready out and about. (I was surprised cuz normally I would have gone by myself.) I found out the reason for his “wanting” to go there was to give JP practice in driving . . . I’m happy to say that JP doesn’t scare the crap out of me when he drives anymore (knock on wood!) In the evening, the hubs and I went to a fund-raising dinner at church (thanks CE for the tix!) . . . it was a gorgeous day so the hubs and I walked instead of drivin…. . . besides, it was daylight savings so when it ended around 6:30′ish, it was still light outside. (Yes, this was an early dinner!) Speaking of walking, I did do the lake yesterday morning (despite the problem I’ve been having with my neck, due to my arthritis for the past several days). . . . anyhoo, even though it should only be 9:39 p.m. (10:39 p.m. now), I’m dead tired too! Hope ya’ll had a great weekend! Oh . . . didn’t quite finish my laundry so I have one load of whites to do tomorrow morning… Arghhhh!
is said to be a tree for all seasons (not just the hub’s but a persimmon tree) and that it has many advantages, including beauty, fruit and attraction for birds. After being in a dormant state since the end of Fall last year, the branches on the hub’s persimmon tree are starting to have buds. When the green leaves start to turn to a beautiful burnt orange, I know it will soon start to loose all its leaves until there is nothing left except for its branches. The tree practically looks “dead” for several months but it’s “neat” watching the buds as they start to sprout out of the branches for spring is almost here!
Ole’s Waffle Shop! After mass, Jack and her familia (including her parents) and our familia went out for breakfast. I tell ya, breakfast is my favorite part of the day. There is always always a very long line at Ole’s especially around 10′ish on the weekends but luckily we didn’t have to wait too long for a Sunday morning. Papa D knew some of the folks that works at Ole’s so after we ate, we “toured” the kitchen and I quickly took a snap shot of this “fellow” making pancakes. Just a little note though . . .this is my own “taste bud,” but I prefer Jim’s only because of their home-fried potatoes and fluffy French toast, and they give you 2 eggs with a combo, not just one. (oink!) However, the wait staff here at Ole’s are all very friendly and attentive. Unfortunately my combo plate I had ordered doesn’t come with hash browns so I had to get some of the hubs’ hash browns as he and JP both had omelets that came with them. (That’s the piggish in me!) Well, we all had an enjoyable breakfast that lasted us through dinner as the familia had “skipped” lunch and went straight to having dinner at home right after AC’s 1st basketball game for the season.
and a final detour to Fourth Street in Berkeley. That’s where Bruh (CE) and I went yesterday for a good 4.5 hours. Bruh had an errand to do so I told her I’d go with her before going to Fourth Street. [I had ran out of this stainless steel appliance cleaner spray that I had bought at Restoration Hardware and I wanted to buy this cheap plastic spreader at Sur La Table - - - my two main purpose of going to Fourth Street ] Our first stop was at the Farmer’s Market where we had picked up some flowers, a bunch of “quinces” to be exact. Of all the flowers, whenever I start seeing those quinces, it tells me that Spring is just right around the corner. We didn’t really stay too long at the Famer’s Market since Bruh’s “purpose” was to only buy some flowers to give to her friend she was going to quickly visit that morning. Afterwards we headed to Fourth Street. By that time it was nearing lunch so since Bruh had never been to Jayakarta Restaurant, we had lunch there. (The last time I was here was with JP back in September.) I wanted to have their rice plate because I just love their coconut rice but since I gave rice up for Lent, I ordered their “mie goreng” (fried rice noodles and egg noodles with chopped chicken, shrimp, beef balls, egg and vegetables.) Bruh had their special which was beef wrapped in banana leaves with coconut rice, but outside the banana leaves was wrapped in brown paper. This photo I took doesn’t look too appealing but Bruh had me try it and it was good. The meat was nice and tender. We even had their version of the “halo-halo” but I accidentally deleted the photos before I could upload them. (duh!) After this satisfying lunch, we headed to Fourth Street. I think the last time I was there was with KitKat so there were a few new stores like Napa Style. I had looked at their small Meyer Lemon tree in a clay pot . . . 99 bucks! Heck no! After moseying in and out of the few other stores, our last stop was Sur La Table. . . I take that back, our last stop after Sur La Table was to get gelato ice-cream at Sketch’s. [keep in mind we already had our dessert at Jayakarta ] Bruh had their vanilla bean & burnt caramel gelato and I had their vanilla bean & toasted almond. Ummmm….yummy! It was nice spending a couple of hours with Bruh and starting my weekend off this way before the dreaded laundry, cleaning, etc. which were all waiting for me when I got home.
Being such a pig that I am, I didn’t waste anytime “shoving” a California Roll in my mouth . . . not thinking that it had “rice” in it. I was at an “event” at work yesterday afternoon where they had hors d’oeuvres and wine [:-)] . It was when I was chewing on the piece of the roll when I realized there was rice in it . . . remember I gave up rice for Lent. I had also taken an unagi roll so I ended up just taking off the “broiled eel” on top of the rice . . . so there! I was so tempted to go back for more of the various sushis they had (they were calling out to me) but I knew I couldn’t so I just stuffed myself with veggies, fruits, cheese & crackers and them “meatballs” that my co-worker (SGW) enjoyed eating. I think between us two, we must have eaten 6 each . . . maybe more. Ha! To make it look like we weren’t so “piggish” we put two meatbals onto one toothpick that way they’ll be less toothpicks as evidence of the number of meatballs we had eaten. (I know no one really cared how much we ate, but we or should I say “I” had to act not so “piggish” after all it wasn’t an all-you-can-eat thingy.) Oh . . .I didn’t have any wine (Darn!) because I had taken an OTC med for my cold earlier. . . despite not having any wine to go with all them “finger-foods”, I was still a happy camper stuffing myself silly until it was time to go home. Yesterday was a good almost 2-hours of having “not to work.” [AMA . . . if you're reading this, I purposely ate more meatballs than I should for you since you didn't go . . . ;-( ]
