Well, while down in Southern Cali, I took advantage of Nordy’s Anniversary Sale (I didn’t make the sale when it was going on up here, but I knew the sale would still be on while we were down there.) by purchasing a pair of Adidas “running” shoes. adidas.jpg (OK…maybe “walking” in my case…but I do both…as much as I hate to exercise, remember I’ve been fairly good at jogging/walking with the hubs around the lake to get my cardiovascular going…..) BTW….I decided not to buy any handbags while I was down there as I realized I have plenty bags for now…. 🙂

As we were coming home from Bay Street on 580 East, I happened to look at Alta Bates Hospital from the freeway….in the beginning after Nanay’s death,  it was hard for me to pass by Alta Bates without thinking of her hospitalization…after all, Nanay was there for almost a month…so were we.  It was on the evening of July 27th that we brought Nanay to Alta Bates and she remained there until it was time for her to go into hospice care on Tuesday, August 23rd of last year.  As I passed by the hospital from the freeway, I was thinking about how it was a year ago today…what we were doing at the hospital, what Nanay was feeling, what we were feeling, etc.  Around this time we didn’t know yet that Nanay had cancer as they were still performing all sorts of tests on her.  I never expected that Nanay would soon leave us….I figured since she was in the hospital, they would “make her well” and find out why she wasn’t eating. How I wish she was still with me/us…

After church, Jacq, E, and the gurls and the hubs, AC and I went to Fuddrucker’s for lunch.  I was feeling much better compared to yesterday but will still take it easy and rest since work mode begins tomorrow!  To make me feel “better,” I opted for “retail therapy!” It doesn’t matter whether it’s clothes, books or housewares…as long as I “buy” something (my bad!)….so, Jacq and I went to Williams Sonoma and bought this rose.jpgSweetheart Rose Cakelet Pan….only the one we bought is in “black” double cast aluminum.  The good part is that it was on sale so we bought 2 each.  If I only had some fresh raspberries right now I could have baked the recipe that came with it, but I guess it’s best that I didn’t or else I wouldn’t be able to “rest.”

Well, I no longer have “angelina jolie” looking lips (slightly swollen but not so obvious compared to yesterday) but I came down with a cold/flu.  I could feel it coming on yesterday with the body aches, chest congestion and stuffy nose…that’s why I feel so miserable right now but still able to “blog.”  Today I’m just going to take it easy by staying home…have to prepare myself and get myself back into “work-mode” come Monday.  Darn!  It’s soooooo hard going back to work after being gone 10 days! JP is at work already this morning while AC and Ms. S is upstairs doing “gurly” stuffs.  The hubs is in the garage tinkering away with the Explorer.  His goal is to have the Explorer up and running when school starts for the kiddies.  Maybe when AC starts as JP will be starting in 2 weeks.  I’m going to end this blog for now because I really really don’t feel good right now…I think the meds that I took earlier has kicked in and is making me drowsy…till then…

Well, the hubs and I just finished lunch at home….since we were gone almost the entire week, our fridge is practically empty so we had to make the best of it by having spam, eggs and rice….SPAM is what I call “emergency” food. [By the way…I just googled “what spam is made of” out of curiosity.  I’ve been eating that pink stuff since I was little and yet never knew a thing about it.  Well “spam” is made up of chopped pork shoulder meat with ham meat added and that Hawaii has the highest consumption rate per capita in the world…that’s an average of 4 cans per person per year.]  spam_1.jpgSo, where am I going with this?  Nowhere… I think the sun has fried whatever brain cells I had left. Ha! Ha!  Anyhoo, the hubs was going to take me out to lunch at Buckhorn Grill but earlier this morning while I was on the computer, unbeknownst to me, either a mosquito or insect bit my lower lip…more than 90% of my lower lid is fricken swollen (almost twice the size). [I didn’t want to be seen in public with a swollen lip.] I immediately called RS to tell her what was happening to me…only me…I swear! 🙂 Where are the kids?? AC is out with Ms. Sara watching a movie and of course JP is at work.  Oh….as I was about to go on my lap-top, I realized that silly me left my charger at my cousin’s house down in Cerritos…I forgot to unplug it and pack it.  Arghhhh! Well, at least we have all 4 chargers for our cell phone. Whew!   I’ll call later to have them mail it to me…I could feel my swollen lip going down a bit…maybe by this afternoon it’ll be back to normal so that I can go to both Joe’s…Trader Joe’s and Farmer Joe’s to buy our daily essentials….

After 7 days and 6 nights in Southern Cali, we are home! The weather down there was extremely hot and unbearable, not to mention humid! Before we went to my cousin’s house, we had to go the Sherrif’s Department to obtain a parking permit to park our car on the street during the wee hours of the night during our stay…don’t ask me why…some sort of “ordinance” I guess…anyway, we also made a stop at Cerritos Library. I know we’re suppose to be on a so-called “vacation”, but the library in Cerritos is something to “oohhh and ahhhh” about. Really! Even the staff at the sherrif’s department said it’s almost like a tourist attraction. While in Southern Cali, we were among the many people that flocked to the indoor malls to seek refuge from the torturing sun; however we did two outdoor malls….The Block at Orange (twice) and Irvine Spectrum Centre. Going down to Southern Cali is not complete for us if we don’t do “malls.” I take that back…the hubs doesn’t care for the malls one bit but he’s a good sport at it only because we’re “down there.” The one mall that we pay homage to is South Coast Plaza…that’s one mall we have to always visit as it has been part of our “tradition” when we’re down there… OK…enough of malls…it was nice spending time with my relatives since it has been 2 years since our last visit; although, Ate Dory did come up last September for Nanay’s funeral. We even got to see my other cousin and her family in Lakewood the night before we left. Besides the familia, we got together that Sunday with AC’s godmother, JG who lives in the LA area. We had breakfast at Le Pain Quotidien Bakery and Communal Table on Melrose Avenue. We all ordered omelettes served with slices of their bread except for AC who decided to just have a Madeline Muffin…of course JG and I had to have their chocolate croissant and pistachio marsipan tart….Ummm! Yummy! The rest of the day was spent at the Third Street Promenade in Santa Monica and Beverly Center. The only single item that I bought that day was a Shu-Uemura Eye-lash Curler at Sephora. (This has to be the best eye-lash curler I have ever tried…works wonders for those that hardly have any eyelashes….like me!) 🙂 Oh…JG also introduced me to The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf…forget my Starbuck’s Green Tea Frap….my new found love is Coffee Bean’s Honey-Dew Ice Blended drink. To my dissappointment, there’s only 3 in the Bay Area and all 3 are in the city. 😦 (I guess I’ll have to venture out there when I have my craving or when I’m there.) That Sunday while we were in the LA area, Bruh (RS) was also there because her daughter, Nikki will be going to school in Southern Cali. It would have been nice to have met up with RS but we weren’t able to. The following day, Monday….we headed down to San Diego (we invited Justin, my cousin’s grandson also)…after pre-checking in at Humphrey’s Half Moon Inn & Suites on Shelter Island, we spent the whole day at SeaWorld. I guess the high light of SeaWorld for all of us was “Shamu” shamu.jpgand the hotel itself with it’s Polynesian theme. The hotel was surrounded with alot of lush green vegetation…..pool.jpgour room had the view of the marina….because of the humid weather and the lush vegetation on the premise, it gave a sense of a tropical feeling of being in Hawaii….it was a good 3 seconds of “imagining”. On Tuesday, we went bike riding along Shelter Island (bike rental courtesy of the hotel), and later we did Old Town San Diego and headed back to the hotel where we spent the rest of the day swimming/lounging at the pool. This part I found to be totally relaxing! 🙂 We drove back up to Cerritos the following day and spent the last night at my cousins before heading back up North on Highway 5…that pretty much sums up our road trip down to Southern Cali. Our last stop on Highway 5 was in Santa Nella at Pea Soup Andersen’s. Since we weren’t too hungry although it was past 2:00 p.m., we all had their split-pea soup. Of the zillion of road trips we’ve taken on Highway 5, this was our first time visiting Pea Soup Andersen. I doubt it if we are going to return because the soup was “just that.” To be quite honest, I’ve had better tasting split-pea soup from local deli’s. Maybe it was that day, but that’s it for Pea Soup Andersen for me/us. Unfortunately, I have to go back to work but at least I get to be lazy today and the rest of the weekend while the hubs still has another week of vacation left. That Bum! However, JP was back at work today.

(On our trek to and from Highway 5, we remembered some of the stops we had made with Nanay…the one “stop” we remembered most since that was her last road trip to Southern Cali 2 years ago was the stop we made at Panda Express right before the Grape Vine. I remember it was so hot I knew Nanay would complain about how hot it was getting out of the car…as soon as we got inside Panda Express, it wasn’t so bad because of the AC. We also remembered the stop we made at Jack n’ the Box several years prior when we had rented a van…that was the year we all went to Catalina Island and Disneyland. I remember that stop at Jack’s because we all had ordered a milk-shake for the road…memories will always live on…in our minds and in our hearts….)
