view-025.jpgHad I read or even flipped through the February issue of “Everyday with Rachel Ray, I would have seen the Beef and Lemon Grass Soup article . . . the question is, would have I made it? The answer is probably no. For some reason, I get “inspired” to make something that I’ve seen on other people’s blog, namely Sardonicnell on this one. So when I saw Sardonicnell’s post on the Beef and Lemon Grass recipe, I knew I had to make it because it looked sooooo fricken good. Although there are some recipes that I might attempt to make in this current issue of this magazine. ūüėČ As with my view.jpgmagazines, I subscribe to name just a few not just the Rachel Ray one but . . . Sunset, Lady’s Home Journal (thanks to KV for the “free subscription), Redbook, Good Housekeeping, Woman’s Day, House & Garden and a few others.¬† I get suckered into subscribing to magazines (and so does the hubs with his own) because of our kiddies’ fund-raising activity at school.¬† Most of the time, the magazines go unread or untouched . . .because I’m too busy blogging.¬† Ha! Ha!

bridgeside-1.jpgthis time over at Bridgeside Center in Alameda. . . this was of course after we ordered and ate our dinner “to-go” from Ohana’s Hawaiian Barbecue. As soon as I got home from work, the hubs said that I didn’t have to cook (yay!) and that he’ll take us out for a bite to eat. We had our food to go and found a place at the estuary side . . . more like the “promenade” area behind all the stores. We gave Toby some ice to play with while we ate our dinner. It was a very nice warm afternoon . . . eating and watching a couple of people on their canoes.

img_3919.jpgAfter work today, I had to go to Petco to buy Toby more of those animal crackers so when I got home I “axed” the hubs if he could drive me to Alameda. The hubs is still on vacation until next Monday. (lucky bum . . . speaking of him, he called me this morning at work just to tell me that he just got done with a 1.5 hour of “massage.” He still has some physical therapy sessions so I guess since his back has been bothering him, they did just that . . . gave him a massage.) Iimg_3920.jpg could have “shot” him for making me envious. OK. . . I’m digressing here so let me get back to what this post is suppose to be about . . . img_3921.jpgWe decided that we’d walk along the beach, well not really along the beach because AC and Toby came with us, which meant we had to do the sidewalk.¬† We only did a short maybe 15 minute walk back and forth because I still had to get dinner ready.

Tomorrow the hubs and I are attending a wedding but of course I didn’t have any gift bought yet so after work (being a procrastinator that I am), KitKat and I went to Fourth Street in Berkeley…to Sur La Table. Instead of getting a present where they were registered, I decided to go to SLT; I did look on-line to get an idea as to their “taste” of kitchen-ware, etc., so it was relatively easy to pick the “right” gift. ceramic1.jpgI bought two pieces from their Italian glazed garden earthenware serving dishes collection and some Egyptian hand towels. Afterwards, we went to Sketch for some gelato.¬† The owners, Ruthie Planas and her husband were both pastry chefs in Aqua before they decided to open Sketch. Ruthie’s parents are very dear friends of my bro. I told Ruthie that her parents were at my wedding 17 years ago. I’ve been there a couple of times but I never knew or I must have forgotten that it was owned by them. Anyhoo, I didn’t feel too adventurous so I only had their organic coffee while KitKat had their Earl Grey Tea. Ummm! KitKat had me try hers….both flavs were yummy! KitKat also bought me their lavender shortbread cookie. The cookie was rich but not too sweet with a hint of lavender. (Thanks KitKat for the treat!)¬† In true Berkeley style, every ingredient that goes into¬†Sketch’s ¬†cakes, ice creams, and cookies are all organically grown.¬†

Since it was past 6 p.m., most of the stores were closing up shop except for the restaurants nearby so we weren’t able to go “pamashal-mashal”…right KitKat? ūüôā I would have liked to gone to The Gardener, Restoration Hardware, ZGallerie and Crate & Barrel Outlet and maybe take a peek at Antropologie across the street. KitKat dropped me home and within 20 minutes, I got a call from Erich….their organization was selling some tamales to raise funds for the people in Honduras…so the hubs drove me to pick up the tamales we had ordered (Risa, CE, and “Bean” had ordered them too so we dropped off Risa’s to her house.) It was perfect timing because that’s what the hubs and I had for dinner as both kiddies weren’t home. I steamed them and boy were they delicious! Nothing beats “home-made” chicken tamales! JP had gone to SF after school…yesterday was the grand-opening of the new portion of Westfield’s San Francisco Centre….the 2nd largest Bloomingdales (in the country) is here in SF. Well, JP had gone their yesterday to meet up with some friends for his birthday before going home to have dinner with us. He said he was going there again today. JP called me twice at work yesterday to tell me the place is “gigantic.” Maybe I’ll wait for all the ruckus to die down before we go there….maybe in a week or two? AC had a volleyball pratice/scrimmage at school….I just got back from picking her and Ms. Sara up who will be spending the night. Well, I’m going to try to throw in a couple of laundry loads now to get a jump start on my domestic duties. Ha! Have a fabulous weekend!

Before going to the “mandatory” (gosh…how I “hate” that word) Back-To-School Night meeting at AC’s school, I decided to take a pix of my pansies that I had the hubs replant about a week or two ago. pansies2.jpgNormally I do it but I didn’t have time and the pansies were starting to wilt in the container. I had plans to bake the chocolate chiffon cake for Nanay’s one-year gathering and make the cake “purdy” by putting some pansies as decoration but that never happened…the cake and all. The other pansies that I bought months ago are smaller in size…these are the perfect size for “decorating” desserts. Oh well, gotta hit the sack now…it was a long long (too long) meeting but it was fun being “crazy” with some of the teachers during the meeting..and inside the church too! ūüôā Poor Jack has 2 more years, as for me….I’m “outta” there come June 2007 when AC gradutates! Between JP and AC…12 years is enough! ūüôā

Well, I couldn’t go back to sleep (after reminiscing about Nanay)…so what was I to do at 5:45 a.m.?¬† BAKE!¬†I had plenty of time since I didn’t have to be at work until 9 a.m and my plants didn’t need watering, so….I got all the ingredients out¬†to make the Raspberry Sweetheart Cakelets.¬† The recipe came with the bundt rosette pan that I bought with¬†Jacq at Williams & Sonoma.¬† I didn’t know when I would be baking it so I bought a package of frozen raspberries last week¬†just in case I was up to baking it…(I know fresh raspberries are better but that’s only good if you’re going to bake it around the time you bought them berries.) After sifting 2 cups of flour, I gave up with the 3rd cup and just dumped it into the bowl.¬† By 6:10 a.m., the two pans were ready to bake in the oven.¬† This recipe is definitely a “keeper”….although I might lessen the sugar to 3/4 cup instead of 1 cup because I found it to be a tad too sweet. raspberry1.jpg(Although my co-workers thought it was good the way it is…) Here is the “finished” product placed on my favorite Bloomie’s plate on top of the quilted placemat…both from RS… ūüôā The quality of the pix sucks because it’s only from JP’s camera phone… Ha!

Besides JP & AC as the hub’s “pride & joy,”….his other “pride & joy” emblem.jpgwas involved in a rear-end accident on the freeway while the hubs was on his way to work this morning….5:15 a.m. to be exact.¬† Apparently, the “other” driver admitted fault and said¬† he had dosed off while driving.¬† The hubs was going about 65/hour when he was rear-ended; the hubs said he didn’t even see the car until he felt that sudden push….he said it felt like a wrecking ball had hit him.¬† I’m so very thankful the hubs did not sustain any injuries (his doctor did say if he feels any pain or soreness tomorrow, he is to call¬†them)…someone must have been watching him from above because at the rate the other driver was driving, it could have been very serious.¬† The hubs called me while I was getting ready for work…well, because of the accident, I decided to not go to work so that I can be with the hubs as he was pretty well shaken-up.¬† After his talk with the insurance, he drove the Bimmer while I followed him to the auto body shop.¬† We left the Bimmer at the shop awaiting the claim number from the insurance.¬† Jim, observed the “damage” to the Bimmer; luckily he¬†thinks the insurance company will not “total” the car.¬† Whew!¬† Jim knows how much the hubs¬†takes care of his “baby”….being a 1995, it was still “valuable” to the hubs…Here’s the list of¬†the Bimmer’s¬†“injuries”:¬†¬† the trunk was dented in, the left tail-lights had busted, the lower body/frame of the car was mis-aligned…pushing it towards the rear of the tires…even the “towing” thingy had protruded out and you can see almost the entire muffler…also because of the “impact,” the sliding roof is out¬†of whack too! bimmer2.JPG¬†A 2002 Tacoma 4×4 rear-ended the Bimmer…surprisingly enough, the driver’s truck had more damage than the Bimmer…the Bimmer will probably be in the shop for a good 2+ weeks.¬† It’s a good thing that the hubs finished “fixing” the Explorer…at least he’ll have that one to drive…I do believe that things happen for a reason…no matter good or bad…we just don’t know. (My car only has the “loaner” car if something were to happen to it…knock on wood; we thought the Bimmer had the same coverage…..Hmmm?)¬† I spent the rest of the day “vegging” out on the couch….watched a chick-flick that I rented from NetFlix….while the hubs was outside in the 90+ degree weather¬†doing one of his side-jobs.¬† I should have been “decluttering” since our¬†neighborhood is going to have a block¬†“garage sale” on August 18th…but nah…too hot!¬†
